Artemis Truax
director • writer • actor • lyricist • dramaturg
Theatre is made to be changed. Unlike most story-telling art forms, theatre does not exist to be one thing. It is meant to be altered, interpreted, and directed differently in every single iteration. This is the driving force behind Artemis's love of theatre. As a writer, she strives to make a firm foundation that can encourage disparate ideas, fantasies, and messages. As a director, she looks to build on the foundation of the text while imbuing her own voice and passions into the production.
Artemis encourages her collaborators to build with her, taking what we love of the past and using it to design what we want in the future.
"Poets, prophets, and reformers are all picture-makers — and this ability is the secret of their power and of their achievements. They see what ought to be by the reflection of what is, and endeavor to remove the contradiction."
Frederick Douglass, "Pictures and Progress"
