Artemis Truax

lyricist • director • writer • actor • dramaturg

Artemis Truax in a NYC-based theatre artist. Her work explores gender, sexuality, and adaptation. In her art, you will find themes on the unattainability of gender and stories as a generational act. Most of all, she believes in using historical works as a mirror to create the world we think ought to be.

In practice, Artemis uses theater to create, uplift, and maintain intersectional communities. Her art comes at an cross-section of feminist, queer, and disabled thought. She prioritizes communal creation and intentional conversation to maintain accountability and integrity.

"Poets, prophets, and reformers are all picture-makers — and this ability is the secret of their power and of their achievements. They see what ought to be by the reflection of what is, and endeavor to remove the contradiction."

Frederick Douglass, "Pictures and Progress"
